Topic 1: Online participation & digital literacies

In the beginning of the ONL course the whole big group took part in a webinar on zoom by David White and Jörg Paregis.  This webinar was a really good opener for how different people behave online and what different people think about sharing content online.

We got an exercise to think about our own way to think about sharing online and I did a mind map for myself that you can take part of in the picture below.

It is about when I feel I´m using internet institutionally and when it’s for my personal use. On the other hand, it´s about when do I use internet like a visitor and when it’s more like you are resident. That was very interesting to think about. At the same time different people are using internet tools by different meaning.

During this topic we discussed digital communication and consumption. I stopped and reflected about different kind of digital footprints I leave on internet when I am sharing publicly online.

I have been thinking about my own digital literacy and identity in my personal and professional life and how I separate and how they are linked. I tried to apply David White’s model Visitors and Residents on myself.

Below you can take part of a mind map when I think that I am being a visitor and when I’m more resident.

It was optional in the course, but I was brave enough to make a twitter account and my intension was to use it in the course later on and to take part of different discussions there but in the end I didn’t use it at all. Maybe the account is something I can learn more about later on being a lifelong learner?

In our groupwork we used Padlet for collaborative work and that was a new experience for me and a tool I am going to continue using when teaching.
