Introduction to myself and ONL20

Introduction

My name is Annika Niemi and I’m working as lecturer in nursing and midwifery at Arcada University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki, Finland.

Online learning is more important than ever because of the covid-19 pandemic. Teachers around the world changed the education from classroom face to face learning to online learning in a very short time in the beginning of the year 2020. This year many teacher and student has taken a giant step into the digital age.

There was no other solution how to produce education when a big part of the world locked down because of the pandemic. We are living very interesting times as educators. By taking part of this course I hope to find new understanding about what online learning is all about and I want to be inspired of new ways and benefits about online learning like how to learn to make the online education more interactive. I’m sure we all are going to have a interesting journey in front of us.

My expectation of the ONL20 course

The reason why I’m attending ONL is that I want to know for example how to make online learning more interactive, as I already said. I also want to improve my English language skills and technical skills by taking part of the ONL course because in these areas I have very good opportunities to improve.

In the beginning I can tell you I feel I have a lot to learn. To be honest I feel that my technical skills aren´t the best and not my English either, so I have to be very brave because I really feel that I am outside my  comfort zone and by attending the course I challenge myself.

Looking forward to get to know my colleagues better and do this ONL20. It is interesting to get in touch with different colleagues with really different backgrounds around the world and learn together for example PBL. 

A part of this course is to write a personal reflective blog about the different topics in the course and we also have to take part of the course participants writings in own their blog posts. In other words, I’m writing a blog as an exercise in the course.
